Youssef Chahine, exhibition and retrospective

14/11/2018 - 28/07/2019

Celebrating the Egyptian filmmaker ten years after his death.

The worldwide triumph of Le Destin tends sometimes to overshadow the other works by Youssef Chahine. The Egyptian director mixed of various influences, East and West, drama and music hall. Born in Alexandria, his work continued to draw on his roots, with inventiveness and combativeness, throughout his life. This retrospective invites us to rediscover Le Sixième Jour, with a wonderful role for Dalida on the big screen, but also unfairly little known films, such as Le Moineau or Gare centrale. In parallel with the retrospective, an exhibition, largely composed of items given by the director, will be organized in the museum of the cinematheque.
